Sangha Sit – Body-Centered Metta – Delaware Valley Insight

  • Online - Register for Zoom Link Philadelphia United States (map)

On Saturday, February 6 at 3 pm we’ll gather online via Zoom for sitting meditation practice, a little discussion, and some friendly interaction. This is a peer-led event with Amy Ward Brimmer from the DVI steering committee serving as guide and host.

Body-Centered Metta

Amy will lead us in metta meditation, or loving-kindness practice, using a body-centered framework. As Joseph Goldstein likes to say at the beginning of a sit, “there is a body.” So why not begin loving-kindness there? We will start with a few simple movements and breathing in the qigong tradition (seated), to settle and unify us. From there we will move into metta practice, where we will start by meeting our physical beings with kindness. We will consider the traditional categories of metta practice as “bodies,” ever-widening circles of connection, progressing from the self to intimate loved ones to our neighborhoods to the DVI sangha, the wider world, and beyond. Accessing the radiating quality of metta in this way, we strengthen our bonds of interdependence and deepen the heart’s sure release.

Suitable for those who are new to loving-kindness practice, as well as experienced meditators.

Please register your interest in joining this event below. The Zoom link will be sent to registrants two days before the event.
