Join Chas DiCapua for practice and discussion via this hybrid session hosted by Delaware Valley Insight and the Unitarian Society of Germantown.
Class Description: In numerous places in the suttas, the Buddha was emphatic that there is no liberation without mindfulness that is firmly and intimately established in the body. The Citta (Pali for heart/mind) is not at ease and happy when it gets seduced into trying to find fulfillment in internal and external sense objects. It is most at ease when awareness is anchored in the body. Through sustained practice with the body, we can experience, for ourselves, that this is so.
We will practice yoniso manasikara or wise attention as we explore what objects are skillful to attend to and which ones are not. We'll spend our day meditating with the body during sitting and walking meditation, as well as bringing full attention to the body when moving about.
Teacher Bio: Chas has been practicing mindfulness and Buddhist meditation, primarily in the Theravada school, for over 30 years, including over 2 years of combined time in silent, intensive retreat. He has trained with Burmese meditation masters, western monastics of the Thai Forest tradition and senior western Vipassana teachers. In 2003 Chas was invited to be the Resident Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA where he continues to serve in that role. He is interested in how the basic material of our everyday lives, including relationships, can be used as a vehicle for awakening. Chas teaches retreats at IMS, at centers and Sanghas throughout the country, and offers Spiritual Counseling for individuals.
Location: The in-person session will be at the Unitarian Society of Germantown, 6511 Lincoln Dr, Philadelphia, PA 19119.
Masks Required In-Person: In order to protect all members of our community, masks will be required of all participants throughout the session.
